Irony

In "Lamb to the Slaughter," Roald Dahl uses irony to make the story memorable. For example, Mary told the grocer, "Patrick's decided he's tired and doesn't want to eat out tonight" when she went to buy vegetables (p. 321).In this situation, Mary is pretending like her husband is alive, even though she knows he is dead, which makes this verbal irony. This encourages the readers to keep reading to discover if she will get caught. In addition, one of the detectives said, "Probably right under our very noses," as he was eating the leg of lamb (p. 324). This shows that It's dramatic irony because we know that the meat that the police officers are eating was the actual murder weapon. This also shows that this is memorable to the readers because they know she killed her husband but men investigating the murder do not. In conclusion, stories with irony are interesting because they keep the reader reading.

Ambiguity Paragrah

In "Notes from a Bottle," James Stevenson's use of ambiguity engages the reader. For example, “The children as usual are riding their bikes up and down the hall,” all the adults were bundling up for the storm and carrying drinks. This shows that this leads the reader to find out why the children were playing while the water was rising, because it seems illogical.
This also shows that the parents reasons for allowing their children to play is ambiguous because they are playing instead of worrying or saving themselves. In addition, "There has been constant speculation on the cause of the flood," when he said they should have been informed. This shows that this leads the reader to want to figure out what is causing the water to rise. This also shows that this show that the cause of the flood is ambiguous to the people in the story because they only have ideas about the cause, but no one really knows. In conclusion, the usage of ambiguity encourages readers to keep on reading the story to find out what really happens because the author had made the story very suspenseful.

One policy that I wish I could change is the two hour policy. Currently this policy states that if you have two D's or one F then you have to study for two hours a day. One reason why it should be changed is that it interferes with the students personal life. Also it is harder for them to get off campus during the week to relieve stress that they might have. If this policy was changed, I would be a little bit more complying on being here. It will make my stay here at SPA just a tiny bit easier to handle, and not as stressful as it may be for some people here like me.

Another reason is that there might be some app's the students can download to help with their schoolwork. Additionally, phones should be allowed because their might be an emergency at home or somewhere else and the student had to have been contacted it will be easier to get a hold of them if phones were allowed. In conclusion, cell phones should be allowed in school because of the things I have listed.

It was July of 2011 and it was Fabian and Damien's birthday month. They decided to get each other a birthday present. Damien Really liked bikes and Fabian really liked music. Each of them only have a little bit of money to get the presents. They both are stumped on how they were going to get the things they wanted to get each other. Damien thought that he could sell his bike to get Fabian some really good headphones for his I-pod. Little did he know that Fabian sold his I-pod to get Damien some handlebars for his bike. When their birthdays came along they had no idea that they both had sold the most important things they have. When Damien opened his present he was surprised and sad to see that he got something for the bike he does not have anymore. When Fabian opened his present he was not ready to see headphones sitting in the box. In the end they told each other how they got the money to get the presents. Spring Break!

During spring break my mood was excited. For example i was excited to be away from SPA for a whole week! This shows that my mind was not focused on this group home. This also shows me how much has not changed on the outside of SPA. In addition i had a great time with my family and friends. This shows that even i am still in a group home I can still see my parents and friends, and they still care for me. This also shows who are my true friends, the people that don't talk crap and that still hang out with me are real friends. Looking back i feel sad because I miss being with my family and friends and being a normal kid outside of this group home.

Practice paragraph.

Felons should be able to vote. One reason why they should be able to vote is because they are still apart of this COMPLEX country and they have a right to vote on something that effects the country. One thing that is RELEVANT to this is that even tho felons committed crimes they are still human beings and they still should have a say in something. The main SOURCE of the people that think felons should not vote is because  sense they did wrong in the past they think felons just want to corrupt the country. After all evidence felons should be able to vote on something that is involved with this country because they are involved in it also.

Poetry paragraph.

It was the middle of eighth grade when I was first introduced to poetry. We had a poetry segment at Roosevelt Middle School. I thought it was pretty cool but it was not the thing for me. We studied the aspects of how to write a poem and we had a chance to write some of our own. We had to do some exercises to help us with coming up with topics to write about. We were suppose to do a portfolio of all the different poems we did but we got too caught up in the work we did not have time to do one. We had to pick one poem from Shel Silverstein and remember the whole thing and we had to re-read the poem we picked in front of the whole class. Overall it was a pretty cool segment in my eighth grade class and I am glad I learn some poetry,

New Semester Paragraph.

My goal for the second semester of the 2011-2012 school year is to get better grades and too work harder.I selected this goal because my grades have been slipping lately and i know i can do better than what i am getting at this moment. Every one around me tells me I can do a lot better if I put my full focus on school, and now is the time for me to achieve that. I will achieve this goal by taking the time to fully do my homework that is given to me and to really put fourth a lot of effort this year to rise to the top. I have confidence in myself so I know that I will be able to achieve these goals as long as i put the time in to actually completing my work.

Do the benefits of importing Chinese goods outweigh the consequences?

Do the benefits of importing Chinese goods outweigh the consequences? Yes it is a very good idea because the IMPORTS are much cheaper to get from China then to actually make the product here in the U.S. If we continue sending EXPORTS to China it will help them with the things they need to sell, in return China helps us by sending us imports. These FUNCTIONS help the economy rise and become more wealthy and to also help are surrounding country's with there economy. So therefore the benefits of importing Chinese goods do outweigh the consequences.
